The Warden
From the frothing sea they arrived,
Ships, shields, and spears aplenty,
Building a fort that bustled and thrived,
Troops and workers, the land they did empty
From the boats and trees,
Their new home under construction,
Stealing away the mountain in cleaves,
New pantheon erected protection
Barbarian and animal kin did attack,
Outside, entering they could not,
A lone warden holding them back,
Breach, the savages would not
Day upon day,
Berserker clawed an assault,
Day upon day,
Guardian defended without fault
A game now brewing between one another,
Invader protecting base,
A test to see whichever would waiver,
Foreigner they must erase
With cunning and strength,
The barbarian kept on the offense,
Success always at arms length,
Stalwart one sustained defense
Beastkin rage did wane,
Returning to their cold mountains above,
Beastman did feign,
Sneaking away to enact something undreamed of
Night by night,
Warden did wait,
Night by night,
Watching the gate
High atop the mountain,
Borrowing from the stone below,
Beneath a snowtop curtain,
Giant man pulled boulder from low
Pushing with all his might,
Howling at the lightning and sky,
Hoping to remove the foreign blight,
Scowling down upon the soldier from high
To his dismay,
Fire and destruction befell the fort,
Enemy disarray,
Attack from force unseen at port
Fire burned now in his breast,
Warden was his alone to battle,
He would kill all the rest,
Tearing down upon them like cattle
Step by step,
Wild one thundered down toward the struggle,
Step by step,
Each new invader he would cleave and strangle
Broken walls and shattered shields,
No man stirred or moved,
Sundered halls and battered fields,
All were dead or returned
At the structure of worship,
A path of destruction laid before him,
Each one from the invading ship,
One had stood to defy them
Slumped against statue of old,
Countless dead,
Wardens wounds grew cold,
Drenched in red
Chant by chant,
Shaman power stoke,
Chant by chant,
Warden once again awoke
Wounded spirit buckled,
Victory in death achieved,
Savage soul soon rekindled,
New purpose believed
Barbarian did not speak,
Soldier gave him sounds,
Pact made at thunderous peak,
Future held for their battlegrounds
New home now destroyed,
Shield and spear in hand,
Enemy must be followed,
Setting sail from the sand
League by league,
Wardens revenge invoke,
League by league,
Immortal warrior awoke
From the frothing sea they arrived,
