Halloween has passed us and those lost souls and monsters that we are must return to our towers, tunnels, and terrorscapes. However, Rimfrost still remains and this week is honor of those wicked wraiths that howl and sunder the great, dark, boreal landscape. The self-title album, Rimfrost is one hell of a ride from beginning to end, each track a giant on their own. As The Silver Curtain Closes knocks down the gate like a Nazgul and thunders into the frozen wasteland beyond yet do not be deceived. This track may start off simple yet I will recommend you give it from 2:19 on to really give you a taste of Rimfrost's power which will leave you awestruck. It is only just the beginning and the cold winds pierce your lungs but the Saga North comes and gives no respite. Strong yet simple intro this track explodes at 1:16 into a stampede of energy and any time you think that it is done it comes back with equal energy, some damn fine work. Now, we go Beyond The Mountains Of Rime and once again we find ourselves standing before a great power like that of a looming blizzard. This is one of those tracks will keep you coming back due to the pace and prowess. As Dark Prophecies shatters that ice we can see that this storm of an album is without signs of weakening. I dig the structure and vocals of this track most of all yet I struggle to say it's my favorite (though I keep coming back to it). Ragnarok follows and is as epic as the subject is, falling upon you without mercy and not stopping until it is done sundering the air. Start at 3:38 and let it ride until the end and you will welcome the end of the nine realms, stalwart and strong, howling Ragnarok to the sky! Where would the end be without Cold. On a scale of cool to freezing, this track breaks the mold and becomes fimbul level frigid. Just a solid track from beginning to end. Der Hexenhammer? Indeed, the Witches Hammer lays before us and it is a mighty, crushing, six minute wonder. You will wail HAMMER OF THE WITCH! And from 4:47 on the track increases in weight, carrying us into the final track. War torn, cold, we stare at Frostlaid Skies, at the end of our journey with Rimfrost. Fittingly, this is the longest track at 9:08 and it is probably the most epic of them all. A cold blizzard of rage that ushers in the end of an era. A sweet spot to start at would be at thew 4:00 mark on however then whole track is an experience and listening from beginning to end offers the best ride. This is one of those bands that I find and nearly shed a bloody tear, knowing it is a piece of me that I have been missing. I cannot say enough about Rimfrost and their work, offering black metal with stunning vocals and mad song structure. I have yet to listen to the previous albums yet I look forward to what else I may be missing. This week is to be quite special with such a an album to carry us through. Take your pick but I know that if one of these hooks you then the whole album will... and that black torch is passed on further and further. /,,/ https://non-serviam-records.bandcamp.com/album/rimfrost-2 https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Rimfrost/22858
